New Macbook Pro - 2.6Ghz Merom

So I ordered myself a new Macbook Pro 15" 2.6ghz last week and this week Apple released or speed-bumped the Macbook range. Sods law isnt it?

To be honest with you, I was happy with the choice I made at the time and Im happy with it still, plus looking at the bump, it wasnt anything that major, so I dont believe Im missing out on much. It also seems that I got one of the last MBPs that still have the remote included which suits me fine as I use the remote in conjunction with remotebuddy a lot.

The other side of the coin though is that as I live in the Czech Republic and we dont have any official Apple stores here it would be rather difficult to exchange anyway but as I said Im quite happy with it so far.

I have a few things that I still need to do with it though - first of all I will be upgrading the memory to 4GB, which Im looking forward to, hopefully it will help things in iDVD and just with the computer in general.

Secondly Im planning on replacing the harddisk with a 320GB Scorpio drive (Im using a 250GB version of this in my current MBP), which wont be as easy as the memory but Im not too worried as Ive done this type of installation before.

Next I plan to upgrade my bootcamp partition to Windows XP - Im running Windows Vista on the current MBP but it's a bit resource hungry to say the least and to be honest I prefer XP. The only thing I need to do is to work out how to transfer my savegames from Gears of War etc over to the new partition as they hide their save files.

Ive just ordered the new memory and drives, they should hopefully arrive today and so then during the weekend I will be able to install them, restore OS X from my backup and then I should be back in business, all being well.

I will post updates here for anyone interested and if you have any questions, let me know.

Andrew
